About Afro Chic:
AfroChic was founded on the basis of one principle: Reinventing, Reinforcing and Revitalizing Our Roots. Four women invo
lved in Toronto arts and business brought their collective ideas and interests together to create a forum to address, embrace and perhaps reconstruct the portrayal of the Black Female in her purest state. The stigmas attached to natural hair, natural beauty coupled with the emotional sentiment tied into those concepts are a touchy subject in Black Society. The Good Hair vs Bad Hair debate as well as the overall setbacks black women endure in the various industries based on image make for a good discussion. The AfroChic event will bring these topics to the forefront through the voices of guest speakers,performing artists, the presentation of audio-visual aids, the showcase of fashion designs and an unprecedented Natural Hair show, all featuring Canadian talent, designers, stylists and the like.
