Canadian born David Dixon, enjoys tremendous media acclaim, standing out among his Canadian contemporaries as one of the leaders in fashion design.
In 1995, after an apprenticeship with the world-famous Canadian designer Alfred Sung, Dixon established his own label. He started out at the Toronto Fashion Incubator, a highly respected training ground for up-and-coming new designers, and began manufacturing and wholesaling his own line in 1996. Dixon left the Incubator to launch his own Toronto-based design and production studio, but he remains affiliated with the TFI and sits on its Board as the President.
Today, David Dixon’s designs are sold across Canada and in the United States, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Switzerland, Germany, Tokyo and Hong Kong. Dixon possesses a modernist openness towards emerging design while rejecting the notion of radical change from one fashion trend to another. His innovative designs have won him a following among the elite communities of film and fashion, including: Meg Ryan, Noot Seear, Jeanne Beker, Wendy Crewson, Daria Werbowy, Ashley MacIsaac, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Paul Gross, Catherine O’Hara, Kristin Booth, Ivana Santilli and Katie Holmes.
More recently, Dixon has expanded his successful signature collection, and has partnered with several National and International brands to further the David Dixon label. Collaborations with the highly successful Town Shoes Chain have resulted in a nationally recognized David Dixon shoe line, while partnerships with The Shopping Channel and Mattel International have brought Dixon into other new and exciting arenas.
In 2008, Dixon secured the exclusive licensing rights for Barbie by David Dixon, a ready to wear collection for real women, to be sold across Canada exclusively through The Bay Department Stores. This collaboration with the International Brand Mattel and The Bay is the first of its kind in Canada. Of more recent in 2011, “David Dixon, LITTLE BLACK DRESS,” has been officially launched across Canada through The Bay.
Over the past two years Dixon, known for his attention to detail, integrity of the design process and over all high quality control expectations throughout all divisions of his brand, has expanded his companies marketing and sales strategies and now designs and sells several collections exclusively for the highly popular The Shopping Channel. This has reinforced Dixon’s belief that fashion is not just for the few, but also rather for everyone.
The ever-growing presence of the David Dixon brand will continue to develop in the years to come. Currently the David Dixon Signature Collection can be found at The Bay, Holt Renfrew, Simons, and specialty boutiques across Canada.
